Restraining Orders for New Jersey Domestic Violence Victims

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Nov 10, 2024 | 0 Comments

In New Jersey, domestic violence is understood as a serious crime committed within a family or between members or former members of a household. There is a particular pain when a close family member, who should be a source of comfort and solace, is a perpetrator of domestic violence or abuse.

If you are a victim of domestic violence, a restraining order for criminal trespass against your alleged abuser may be a critical tool to ensure your safety. In New Jersey, you can apply for a restraining order if a current or former spouse, someone you are daring, a member of your shared household, or someone with whom you share a child has committed predictive acts of violence. A predictive act of violence might include threats, stalking, harassment, kidnapping, burglary, or robbery.

Daughter Seeks Order of Protection Against Father

No one should be hurt. The pain and terror of abuse are exacerbated when the perpetrator holds a position of authority or trust. When you are hurt by a person who should be protecting you, the betrayal is particularly horrific.

It has been reported that Jillian Howard of Noble, Oklahoma, recently filed for and was granted a victim protective order against her father, whom she alleges attacked her in their home. Howard explained that her father grabbed and dragged her off a bed and into the living room, where he began kicking her. She says her son was in the same room while her father abused her. According to Howard, her father has abused her since she was a child.
